Research Progress on Influence of Alloy Composition on Corrosion Resistance of High-entropy Alloys and Their Coatings

    • Metal corrosion can cause damage to structural engineering components, affecting the normal function of the material and causing it to fail rapidly in service. Among metal materials, precious metals such as Ag, Au, Pt, etc. have good corrosion resistance. However, high cost and relatively poor mechanical properties limit their application, so high-entropy alloys (HEA) have gradually become the research hotspot of scholars due to their excellent corrosion resistance. The research on the corrosion resistance of high-entropy alloys and their coatings in recent years was reviewed, and the effects of alloy composition on the corrosion resistance were summarized. From the perspective of microstructure, composition distribution, precipitation phase, ceramic particles, etc., the influence of alloy composition on the corrosion potential, corrosion current density, pitting potential, and corrosion rate, etc. were illustrated, and the problems in the field and the direction of future efforts were pointed out, which could be used as a reference for the subsequent development of high entropy alloys and their coatings with excellent corrosion resistance.
