Abstract:
The impact properties for a novel soft/hard multilayered copper/brass composites was explored based on Charpy impact testing. The results show that the impact toughness of soft/hard laminated copper/brass composites is better than that of pure copper/brass. The superior impact toughness is explained by that lots of crack deflection or interfacial delamination appears during the impacting process that consumed huge energy and thereby reducing the driving force of crack propagation. This work broadens the enhancement methods on the mechanical performance of metallic materials by a new structural design strategy.
